Thames Valley Childrens' Centre Facts
TVCC was established in 1949 for children in London and Southwestern Ontario, and annually serves more than 6,500 children and their families in the ten communities of Southwestern Ontario.
TVCC serves children from pre-birth to young adulthood with physical disabilities, communication disorders, developmental delay, and autism spectrum disorders.
Services include: assessment, diagnosis, consultation, and therapy for long-term and acute disabilities.
Types of disabilities: birth defects, cerebral palsy, cleft lip & palate, developmental delay, orthopaedic conditions, brain injury, spina bifida, speech & language disorders, autism spectrum disorders, and many others.
Types of services and therapies: specialized medical clinics, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, intensive behavioural intervention, psycho/social services, communication development, augmentative communication, seating and mobility, leisure, recreation and fitness, and others.
Available to families in a ten-county area through our London Centre, satellite offices in Kincardine, Stratford, Windsor, Chatham, Sarnia, Strathroy, Owen Sound and Woodstock, unique outreach programs that travel to the child, and more than 20 partnerships with school boards, health care organizations, community agencies.
67% of services are delivered outside of our London building in over 400 settings (not including homes) such as schools, daycares, recreational settings, hospitals and other organizations.
2007/08 operating budget is more than $24 million. Funding comes from various sources: Ministry of Children and Youth Services 72.4%; inistry of Health 2.4%; Federal 0.2%; Contracted Services 12.7%; and Donations, Grants and Investments 12.3%
Exceeded over 1,770 Centre referrals and provided more than 200,000 hours of clinical service.
TVCC employs more than 350 staff, utilize 500 volunteers (250 of those being direct service, and 250 special events volunteers) and provided 55 students with a practicum/placement opportunity in the last year.
