Event History and 2009 Dinner
For 53 years, a committee of volunteers from the Rotary Club of London and London Sports Media has organized
the Rogers Sports Celebrity Dinner and Auction with the sole purpose of raising funds for Thames Valley
Children's Centre. To date, this event has raised over $1.3 million dollars to support programs and services that
help kids with disabilities reach for the stars. In 2008 we struck a new partnership with the Fowler Kennedy Sport
Medicine Clinic who has provided sport medicine care for people in this community since 1974. We hope you
will join us in making the 2010 Rogers Sports Celebrity Dinner the best ever.
Our 2009 Rogers Sports Celebrity Dinner was a huge
success, raising more than $55,000 for the Thames
Valley Children’s Centre and the Fowler Kennedy
Sport Medicine Clinic. The Convention Centre was at
full capacity with over 900 attendees who enjoyed a
magical evening with some of the nation’s favorite
celebrity athletes. Celebrities in attendance included Eric
Lindros, Fergie Jenkins, Jacques Demers, Serge Savard
and emcee Art Hindle.
Proceeds from the Rogers Sports Celebrity Dinner and
Auction support Opportunities to Participate programs at
Thames Valley Children's Centre. These specialized
programs support and encourage children and youth with
disabilities to discover a variety of activities, learn new
life skills, realize their talents, develop friendships, gain
self-confidence and have fun.
The Fowler Kennedy Sport Medicine Clinic will use a
portion of the proceeds from the 2009 Rogers Sports Celebrity Dinner and Auction to facilitate the development
of rehabilitation protocols for frequently seen activity related injuries such as ACL ruptures, meniscal tears and
rotator cuff problems. The rehab protocols will be developed in consultation with the Fowler Kennedy
multidisciplinary team using the best available evidence obtained from years of data collection. The objective
is to allow the patient to achieve their pre-injury level of function safely and in a timely fashion. Once developed,
the Fowler Kennedy Sport Medicine Clinic will share this knowledge with other physiotherapists, kinesiologists
and athletic therapists. Ultimately our objective is to enhance patient care not only locally, but nationally and
internationally.
The relationship between the Fowler Kennedy Sport Medicine Clinic and the Thames Valley Children’s Centre
(TVCC) began in 1972 when a young orthopaedic resident by the name of Dr. Peter Fowler worked one day a
week at the TVCC, then known as the Crippled Children’s Treatment Centre. Dr. Fowler continued to work
with children at the Centre until 1982.
Over the years the Fowler Kennedy Sport Medicine Clinic has assisted the Rogers Sports Celebrity Dinner &
Auction by attracting high caliber athletes. Together we share the common goal of helping kids reach beyond
disability.
